Our Purpose & Beliefs:

Calvary Baptist Church exists to:
  • Exalt God
  • Evangelize the lost
  • Encourage one another
  • Equip the saints
  • Enable members to serve
At Calvary Baptist Church we hold to ten basic beliefs:

1. About God: God is bigger and better and closer than we can imagine.
God is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are the one and only God.

Genesis 1:1, 26-27; 3:22; Isaiah 44:6; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2

2. About Jesus Christ: Jesus is God showing Himself to us.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven´s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of kings, and Lord of lords.

Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:22-23; John 1:1-5 ;14:10-30; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3-4; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 4:14-15
3. About the Holy Spirit: Through His Holy Spirit, God lives in and through us now.
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily.

John 14:16-17; 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13; 5:18
4. About the Bible: The Bible is God’s perfect guidebook for living.
The Bible is God´s word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.

Psalm 12:6; 119: 105, 160; Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 1:13; 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21

5. About Creation: God made it all.
Nothing in creation “just happened.” God is creator of all things. Genesis 1:1 makes the very plain statement – “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Any chance happening that created the world did not happen. All is created by the design of the Creator. Mankind is also a wonder of God’s creation. Created for five purposes: magnify God, fellowship with other believers, grow to become like Christ, serve God by serving others, and share the good news.

Psalm 139:13-16; John 1:1-5; Colossians 15-16

6. About Mankind: All are created in God’s image, an image that was marred by sin.
People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

Genesis 1:26-27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; 59:1-2; Romans 3:23
7. About Salvation: Grace is the only way to have a relationship with God and faith is the only way to grow in that relationship.
Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never makd up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his/her life by faith.
John 14:6; Romans 5:1; 6:23; Galatians 3:26; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5

8. About Eternal Security: Our salvation is secure because of the character and promises of God.
Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot “lose” it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.

John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10, 14; 1 Peter 1:3-5

9. About eternity: Heaven and hell are real places. Death is a beginning, not the end.
People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.

John 3:16, 18; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9; Revelation 20:15
10. About Baptism and Communion:
Baptism by immersion symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and is your public declaration that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. Baptism does not save you, but shows the world that you have already been saved. And while baptism is not required for salvation, it is a biblical command and demonstrates your love and obedience to Christ.

Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:41; Ephesians 2: 8-9; Colossians 2:12
Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is an ordinance given to all believers by Jesus Christ to remember his sacrifice for us and to symbolize the new covenant. The elements of bread and wine or juice are symbols of Christ’s broken body and shed blood. Communion is not a means of salvation. Rather, it is a testament of a believer’s faith in the atoning work of the cross.
Matthew 26:26-30; Mark 14:22-26; Luke 22:19, 20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29

He is not here...He has Risen!!!

When ordinary people decide to follow Christ, He can accomplish extraordinary things through them.

“When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, everything is lost." ~ Billy Graham

“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose." ~ Jim Elliot
